The Construction of Lot 2 of Struma Motorway Has Started

On 31 July 2013, the first sod was turned on Lot 2 of Struma Motorway. Lot 2 is a 37.5 km long section connecting the towns of Dupnitsa and Blagoevgrad. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by the Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Petar Kirov and the Chairman of the Management Board of Road Infrastructure Agency M.Eng. Lazar Lazarov. The Contractor of the road section is Struma-Lot 2 Consortium (comprising the Bulgarian companies PATSTROY-92 AD, GBS-Infrastructure Construction AD and the Italian company Impresa S.p.A.).

The project is co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund and the state budget under the Operational Programme Transport 2007-2013.

The total length of Struma Motorway is 150 km. It belongs to the Pan-European Transport Corridor ІV and the Trans-European North-South Motorway. The implementation of this project makes Bulgaria more accessible and attractive for development of business investments and tourism.
