A Newly Built-Up Section of Struma Motorway Has Been Inaugurated

On 23 July 2013, the first completed 13.98 km section of Lot 1 of Struma Motorway was officially opened for traffic in the presence of the Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva. The contractor of construction and assembly works is Struma-1 Consortium comprising the Bulgarian companies PATSTROY-92 AD, GBS-Infrastructure Construction AD and the Italian company Impresa S.p.A. The project is co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund and the state budget under the Operational Programme Transport 2007-2013.
The total length of Lot 1 from Dolna Dikanya to Dupnitsa is 16.78 km. The completed section will be put into operation before the appointed time in order to facilitate traffic towards Kulata. The remaining 2.8 km will be constructed by the end of August 2013.
The event attracted great public interest in view of the significant effect which the new motorway section will have on our transport infrastructure.
