A new 7.5 km section of Lot 1, Mezdra-Botevgrad Expressway is opened to traffic
A 7.5 km road section of Lot 1, Mezdra-Botevgrad expressway was completed by Geopat Lot 1 Consortium comprising Geostroy AD and Patstroy-92 AD, part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP.
The new section was put into operation at an official ceremony where the racing driver Ivan Vlachkov first tested out the road surface quality driving a race car made in Bulgaria. The fully completed 7.5 km stretch runs between the villages of Skravena and Novachene and includes Novachene road junction, three bridges over the rivers Bebresh, Rudarka and Kalnitsa, two overpasses, reinforced earth retaining walls, culverts, engineering infrastructure and utility connections, recreation areas, street lighting, road markings, road restraint systems, bat shielding devices. More than 125 thousand tons of asphalt concrete mixes were laid, over 2.2 million m3 of excavations were made, and more than 1.2 million m3 of embankment fills (zone “A” and road base) were constructed.
The event was attended by Architect Ivan Shishkov, Caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, M.Eng. Desislava Paunova – member of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency. GEOTECHMIN GROUP was represented by PhD Eng. Vladimir Vutov, Vice-President of Geotechmin and Executive Director of Geostroy, Mr Dominic Hamers, Executive Director of Geotechmin, M.Eng. Aleksandar Velev, Executive Director of Patstroy-92, Prof. Dr. Eng. Rumen Milanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Patstroy-92, Mrs Emilia Ilieva, Member of Geostroy’s Board of Directors and Executive Director of Geotrading. The Metropolitan Bishop of Lovech Gavriil performed a solemn water blessing service for the safe operation of the new road.
The total length of Lot 1, Mezdra-Botevgrad expressway, which is being executed by Geopat Lot 1 Consortium, is 19.3 km and the construction works on the project are continuing.
