PATSTROY-92’s Internship Programme provided an opportunity for undergraduate students and young specialists to gain hands-on, career-specific experience during summer break 2021.

Here is what Nikol Nikolova, a student at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy and an Intern Surveyor in the Production and Technical Department at the company, said about her internship experience, ‘The good thing is that I was firstly in the office, then on Mezdra – Botevgrad Motorway, Lot 1 which was built with PATSTROY-92’s active participation. I saw how each construction phase was executed on the building site and I learned how to keep track of the documentation and process organization during the project execution. At first, it was hard for me to imagine it, but on the building site I got a realistic idea of the actual construction process.’ And she added that the onsite construction process correlates with what she studied at the university – geodetic surveying and tracing. ‘I learned about some subtleties in the geodetic work. What is more, I learned a lot about road construction, the specific works and types of materials used for the various road layers, the method of surveying from a geodetic point of view - zone A, zone B, etc.’ said Nikol Nikolova. She admitted that she had seen some of the machines up close for the first time, such as an excavator and a grader. During her field visits to the company’s production sites, she saw firsthand the operation of a quarry, a crushing and screening plant, and an asphalt plant. ‘It was most valuable for me to understand what I want in geodesy and in which direction I want to develop,’ concluded the student.

PATSTROY-92 offers paid internships for a period of one to three months. In this way, the company maintains beneficial university-business cooperation, giving students real-life work experience and opportunities to start their career in a respected road construction company with a team of motivated young professionals.
